Under this year's Asean Summit theme, "Asean Community in a Global Community of Nations", the regional members are expected to address Asean's post-2015 vision for a more cohesive Asean role in addressing global issues.However, one of the underpinning issues that will recur during the summit this year in Jakarta on May 7 and 8 will be the work towards economic integration leading to an ambitious goal of an Asean Economic Community by 2020 (a regional economic bloc) through reduction of barriers to trade and investment, rapid development of transportation, and information and communication technology, institutional mechanism like Asean Free Trade Area (AFTA) and through BIMP-EAGA cooperation and Greater Mekong Region.
