Asean recognises the significance of the local communities who live around forest areas in the region as a catalyst for the protection and conservation of tropical rainforests. Social forestry is one of the important components and services in forest management which is not only traditionally providing sustainable livelihood but at the same time maintaining and restoring forests as an effective carbon sequestration to reduce the effect of global warming.
